One of the Ecosystem Coldharbour initiatives is to distribute grants through the Ecosystem Coldharbour Micro Grants Programme, which has been set up to support the local grassroots organisations and unincorporated emerging community groups to enable them to respond over time to the changing needs of local people, especially in relation to the reduction of youth violence.

The Consortium received money from the Mayor of London’s Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) with an aim to address root causes of violence affecting young people and families and provide positive opportunities for them with a specific focus on tailored interventions. The Micro Grants programme is part of the overall development and strengthening of networks of community organisations in the Coldharbour ward, through offering them training and 1-2-1 support for our capacity building.

The area of focus is Coldharbour ward, mostly the ward’s largest estates of Angell Town, Loughborough and Moorlands as well as central Brixton. The grant aims to support grassroots organisations with an annual turnover of up to £20k. We are planning to give grants of £500 - £2500 to projects, which can be delivered within 6 months. All applicants as well as other groups will also benefit from a wide range of our networking and capacity building activities. The funding will be flexible but must address the main aim of reducing youth violence.

Our overarching aim is to be inclusive and to develop a network of sustainable local organisations and groups. Grant opening date and details of the programme will be launched on 22 June 2021. Those interested to hear more can join this launch on Zoom at 10-11 am on the day it opens.
